Webinar : Bringing Stellarium to Your Classroom

Stellarium is a free planetarium software that brings the wonders of the night sky right to your screen, no telescopes or clear skies required! Whether you’re teaching in a city classroom or a rural one, Stellarium makes it easy to create immersive astronomy experiences for your students. I hosted a webinar for Discover the Universe, where I discussed Stellarium’s key features and highlighted practical ways to connect them to the Canadian K-12 curriculum. Talk : A Rookie's Guide to a DIY Star

Recreating your object of study in a lab experiment serves as excellent testing grounds for any scientific theory and is a staple of most sciences. But what do you do if your object of study is an extremely large, immensely hot ball of radiating gas that is near impossible to recreate in a lab on Earth? Well, you can just make a computer model of it! This talk, given at AstroTours in June, 2023, is a handy guide for the rookie scientist and science enthusiast — it will walk you through the basics of making a star from scratch. This guide is your peek into the world of modelling and simulations and how they contribute to cutting edge astronomy research.

Video Insert : I Wonder What the Sun Sounds Like

Sound cannot travel in the vacuum of space. But does that mean there is no sound outside of Earth? I recorded a short talk on the sounds of the Sun for Dunlap Institute's programming for the Total Solar Eclipse of April 8,2024. You can watch the talk in this video starting at 46:48 and ending at 51:05.
